FINAL COMMENTS

Chi Chi’s possible conflicts about deep attachments and preexisting aversion to exploratory therapy may have made it hard for me to do effective psychoanalytic work with her. Some of my colleagues would say she was not a good candidate for this approach. But I wish I had encouraged her more than I did to talk out loud about negative feelings about the kind of therapy I do. I continue to wonder whether more extensive exploration of that territory would have made her feel both safer and more helped.
